Pandemic preparedness kit
A pandemic doesn’t cut the power, but it can close shops, stretch supply chains and keep you at home. The kit is about hygiene, respirators and being able to look after someone who is ill.
Before it happens
- Keep a stock of FFP2/N95 respirators.
- Have a thermometer and basic medicines for fever and pain.
- Keep enough food and essentials to avoid shopping for a while.
When it happens
- Stay home when you’re ill, and keep up to date with recommended vaccinations.
- If someone at home is ill, give them a separate room if you can, keep it ventilated, and have one person do the caring.
- Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds, and wear a respirator in crowded indoor spaces.
- Follow your health authority for current advice on testing and treatment.
The kit
Start with the L1 kit (72 hours). For this hazard, these items matter most:
- Respirator mask (FFP2 / N95)
- Thermometer
- Pulse oximeter
- Hand sanitiser
- Plastic sheeting
- Pain and fever relief
- Cold, cough and sore-throat remedies
